Orginally I was planning on showing Sandy. I've taken a handling class and I wasn't thrilled with the teaching part of it as the teacher was pretty negative towards newbie's but still thought we would give it a shot.

Anyways I've still been growing out coat and topknot with the plans on trying to show my girl. I think she's pretty nice conformationally though could have better poodle feet. Today I measured on top of her shoulders to see where she was height wise and I got 15.5...:ahhhhh: ..she's 15lbs but could use about 2lbs on her. She's 10months so could still grow.

I do know her Daddy was a bit oversize at 16inch (I bet he's more and they didn't measure he almost looked like a small standard) and her mom is a smaller mini.

So I guess we are going for agility/obediance instead. Well at least I don't have to worry about not sitting when she looks at me *sigh*. I still think I'm going to keep the coat for awhile and have it put in a proper puppy cut.

So sorry to hear you didn't have a good time in your handling class, but I bet you & Sandy will have a ball in Agility! Most people I know who have done agility have a bond with their dogs that is just amazing. I'm sure you'll find your niche no matter what you do...Good Luck!

I didn't measure her with a wicket but I measured her with a measuring tape using my hand feeling the top of her shoulders. It's hard to tell if it's 15.p\5 or 16inch but doesn't look smaller.

I'll go try again using something straight across the top and see what I get. BRB :)

... I believe that everything happens for a reason, although we do not understand it at the time. Perhaps remeasure and then also look at other options... Like Molly said, you will find the right thing for you both :) Best wishes!

Aww, I'm sorry. Honestly, you probably could get away with it...I see a lot of oversized minis and toys in the rings around here. I went to a show on Sunday and I swear I saw some 11-11.5" toys. 1/2" with all that coat isn't hardly noticeable. You could show her UKC as a standard, that's what I've done with Trevvor, he is 16.5". They didn't even bat an eye, I think they see a lot of the Klein size so it was normal to them. Either way, you'll like agility too I'm sure! I'm still working on getting Trev into that.

Well show as a UKC standard is an idea :0). Is it allowed if her akc papers say that she's from mini parents? If it is she would be the smallest standard out there but it would still give me experiance.

There is a ukc show in dec. not that far from me that I will think I will go to and see how it is (without the dog).

Tinlet you give me hope :0).

I emailed her breeder and asked about her dad's size and she told me he is oversize but 15 at the shoulder? A bit confused about that one. From what I remember he looked a bit taller than my girl does now. Females also don't get as big as males either right? So either I am measuring all wrong or she is ..

I'm giving her a bath today so I'll see what I get when she's wet.

I have seen oversized toys and minis being shown, so don't give up for a half an inch or an inch. I also have only once seen a wicket being pulled out at a show and it wasn't for a poodle!

Measuring with a tape measure or even using the comb is difficult and probably not the most reliable. Also, you have to be sure that you are measuring in the correct spot, one inch forward or back will give a different result. I can measure Finnegan anywhere from 26-28 inches.

If you can find a wicket, that would be the most reliable measure, but you still have to be careful of the placement. Assuming that her front legs are solidly under her and not forward, you need to draw a straight line from the back of her leg, up past the elbow to the top of her back. That is her withers and where she should be measured.

My Aussie was conformation material, but I'm not. So we did obedience and agility instead. OMD!!! Agility is soooo much fun, the bond with your dog is incredible nice people to play with. Poodles can do it too, any dog really. I've even seen video of Maltese!! The dogs need to be measured with a wicket for jump height only, and they were issuing a card so you don't have to keep repeating that.

I fell apart physically or I'd still be in it. Go for it!!!!!

Well I know her dad is bigger than 15inch at the shoulders..I remember her telling me he was oversize and 15isn't. When I told the breeder that I'm not sure if i'm measuring Sandy right she told me that one of Sandy's brothers is measuring 16inch.

It's not the end of the world though. I will go to the UKC show and see how that is and see if I want to go that way. Agility does sound fun.

Go & show your Poodle in the UKC show in December. It will be good experience for both of you. UKC is much more relaxed, NO pro handlers & of course NO hairspray, Wiggies etc..... more desirable IMHO. I can't wait to show my Toy in UKC it will be totally different than rall or obedience. Anyway, I have as of yet never seen a judge pull out a wicket & measure a Poodle, with all that hair how can one tell. I did though attend a grooming competition where there was a "toy/mini" poodle class & a "Spoo" class. The "toy/mini" class has a time limit based on height so 10"& under was 1 1/2 hrs to grooom, over 10-15 was 1 hr 45 etc.... Anyway, I questioned my time limit since I knew the dog I was grooming was over the 10" mark. So, I actually asked the judges to wick my Poodle, then another groomer thought she had a toy poodle & they wicked her Poodle & it was in the mini size. Then for some reason the judges decided to measure the Poodles in the whole class of every level. Turns out they disqualified 5 poodles for being over 15" & therefore could not be used in the "toy/mini" class.

Go & have a good time at the UKC show but go & show you have nothing to loose.
