We said goodbye to Matrix, my very first standard poodle. He was 13 years old...I've had him for nearly half my life. He is the poodle that cemented my love for the breed, and set me on my path to rescue and help poodles in need.

Matrix joined my family the summer of 2003. He was our second foster puppy for a Service Dog organization. I still remember the day we picked him up at 8 weeks old, a tiny little black ball of fluff. He was the cutest thing I had ever seen.

Well, things didn't pan out for Matrix's career, and he came back to us as a permanent member of our family.

Matrix was loved by many for his smarts, love, and goofiness. When he loved someone, he made sure you knew it. He made you feel so special.

He was quirky, had a fear of feathers, and gave me so many laughs and treasured memories over the years.

My parents and I are heartbroken. We have lost a member of our family. It just doesn't seem real yet.

Forever missed.

Age 10, with his most favourite toy ever, his orbee ball.

Last summer, waiting for me to toss his ball

So sorry to hear of your loss. Love your photos of such a happy boy.

I see in the last photo that he has a harness with a handle at the hips. Do you know what kind of a harness that was, and would you recommend it? My boy Bob is having quite a bit of trouble with his hips and I'm trying to figure out how best to help him.

What a beautiful tribute of Matrix in your wording. I can almost feel, through your writing, that I knew Matrix. I especially loved "his fear of feathers". Bless your dear friend's passing and the loss of this remarkable being to the members of this family. Though he is gone from the physical world, if you believe, he stands close in spirit, at peace and in eternal wellness. Love and hugs, Kassie.

I'm so very sorry Locket, to you and your family. What a sad time for you. Matrix was a very special, wonderful friend all these years. You and he were lucky to have each other all that time. But it's never enough time, is it. I'm really sorry. I hope you will find consolation in your photos and memories. Those photos are wonderful and show such a happy fella.

Matrix is a really beautiful boy and I am so very glad you got to share your loving home with him. Although this time is very difficult for you there will come a time soon when you will once again smile at the thoughts you have of your life with Matrix and you will once again celebrate him with joy.

You were so lucky to have grown up with such a special soul in your life.

Thank you so much for sharing his pictures and your story with all of us so we can celebrate him too.

My heart is with you.
