Rescue poodles in Bergen Co., NJ
The no-kill shelter near me recently got three poodles who had been abandoned, apparently by a BYB. There is a black toy, a parti large toy or small mini, and an apricot mini--all female and unspayed. The shelter has given them shots and will spay them next week. The little black one seems pretty young. The vet says the parti is about 9, and I am not sure about the apricot. One or two of them have eye problems, not sure what.
They are very unkempt and un-poodly looking. I think they are all poodle but I really can't be sure till they are cleaned up. Right now they have dirty teddy bear faces, ugh. They all have poodle noses and coats. I started to do a very basic groom on one of them but I was very cautious--they were withdrawn to the point of being almost catatonic. However, gradually they all started to warm up. Not only were they completely and totally passive under grooming but they were following me around by the time I left. I hope I have time to get them looking better this weekend so they will be more adoptable, even though I am only a novice groomer.
I was told that all three were abandoned in a single cat carrier! Unbleepingbelievable. I can't figure out what they would have been through to produce this state of fearful passivity but without biting, and with the readiness for affection right underneath.
If anyone is interested, they are at the Bergen County Humane Society in Lyndhurst, NJ.
