What color is our poodle?

Hi! New here. I've been reading for a while - but just registered to ask for help! We're soon to buy a new puppy - and I'd love to find one the same color as the dog we currently have. But... I'm not sure what color you'd call him!! We've had several poodles over the years (all whites and a black) - but this little guy was actually a stray we took in after searching high and low for his owners. He was an absolute skinny, matted disaster when we found him - and how he's absolutely, positively beautiful and THE perfect little family dog!

I thought, at first, he must be apricot - but one breeder said she thinks he's red. I'd love to find another dog his same color, but I'm not really sure what to look/ask for! All the apricot puppies I'm finding are coming from very "white" apricot parents and the puppies are extremely light.

When we first found him, I just called him "brown." lol He matched our pet hedgehog, who is a brown hedgie. He also matches our sofa - which is brown, lol. His nose is black (with a little smudge at the top of his nose that is lighter in color) The vet estimates him to now be between 3-4 years old.

Help?

Here is where he very nearly perfectly matches our sofa - which is brown.

He is absolutely adorable!! Nice pictures. I love the way he blends in with everything in your house. Do you ever loose him?

I'm not sure what color he is but he looks a lot like the dogs that we saw when we went to get our newest puppy, Taffy. The father is red and the mother cream with red rings around her eyes and nose. A lot of the dogs in the kennel who were adults had this same sort of tan coloring. I had never seen that color before going there. I love it though. Our baby could go either way. Her shaved feet and face have that tan/beige color as a base but she has the reddish apricot on her ears and down her back. It is going to be a waiting game for us to see what she clears to.

I hope someone has a definitive answer for you.

Oh, and welcome!

We actually picked the color of our new sofa because it reminded us so much of Monkey's color! LOL!! We must reeeeally like this color!! He's also very shiny and shimmery, if that makes sense, lol.

Here are a few additional pictures, in case they help. The first two are right after he was groomed for the first time (he had to be shaved - and he was sooooo skinny). The sleeping picture is more accurate on his color - the standing one was in bright sunlight with a good deal of skin showing through his fur due to being shaved. When he's groomed, his face does have a silvery cast to it.

And the 2nd two are right when we found him. Check out that matted fur! Poor fella. He is about 10 different colors of "mud" here. What a mess. He totally looked like an Ewok or Chewbacca. LOL!!

Welcome to this forum, you'll love it here I'm sure. Your little guy Monkey is adorable and his color is just beautiful, he blends in so well with everything else that you have, including Willie the hedgehog. I don't blame you for looking for another one just like him. It's hard to believe that you found him as a stray and that nobody ever came to claim him, makes you wonder about people doesn't it? Great for both you and for Monkey that you found each other. I also love how relaxed Monkey seems to be in your adorable little boys arms, soooooo cute.

Monkey showed up at our doorstep very late one night and scared my oldest daughter, who was taking out the trash. We went back outside, but he was gone. Next morning, dh found him sitting on our porch. We think he was missing for a long time (and we placed ads, called vets, posted at the animal shelter, etc) and it just seemed that he picked us.

It was great timing, because we'd had to re-home our 1yo poodle just a couple months before this. Our ex-neighbors big dogs attacked him in our yard and he was unable to relax after that - didn't want to go outside to the bathroom because he could smell the big dogs, etc. It was a total nightmare. We rehomed him with an elderly woman whose 14yo nearly-identical black poodle had recently passed away. She calls us every so often with updates on him and they're best buddies.

But, we were missing having a dog - then Monkey just showed up out of the blue. He's THE perfect family dog - he lets the kids do absolutely anything to him, lol (they're GOOD, KIND kids - he just lets them tote him around in any old position - as long as he's getting attention, he's fine! LOL)

It looks like he was a red that has cleared out to a buff apricot color, if indeed that pic of him sleeping is more accurate to how he really looks. Irregardless of his color, he is absolutely adorable, as is your son..lol, and I think it is wonderful that he found a good home with you!

BTW, I absolutely LOVE the shot of him and the hedgehog together... they both blend into the rug so well... lol, I agree with spoospirit, how do you not "loose" them in your house. :)

Oh, and WELCOME to the forum!!!!!
