Hi
Well after having a 2nd poodle...we sort of wonder if maybe we need another one :)
I am looking at one 2 year old white female that is a Stella grand daughter...she was kept for show along with 3 others (must have been a very close litter!!one male is finished, one female is just about finished and the last one will start with the handler in the next few weeks...this girl apparently didnt like being a show girl..I dont have that exactly understood yet) She is said to be sweet, calm and gorgeous. The other one is a 17 in pretty black big mini that is 1 yr old. Both are/will be altered.

Here are my thoughts..

The standard:

the female standard is from Stella lines (big plus).., I love white standards, her temperament is said to be much like Stella, She is mature enough to not be too wild. The down side is of course...having 2 standards to groom. Having two big dogs underfoot..

The mini is cute, said to not be barky at all, not hyper at all, he is in agility. He is younger...wonder what a 1 year old mini would be like...vs a 2 year old female standard..He will take less time to groom, less money to feed... the bad side is he is not from Stella, and I love seeing her playing with another standard...never seen her play with a mini.

Good thing both of the breeders are within driving space and both will take the dog back for full refund if it doesnt work out. One other thing swaying me is that stella breeder knows exactly what I want...another Stella..He understood what I wanted the first time and he was spot on.

Any other thoughts? Thanks!!

Tammie

Good point, any issues I've ever had with dogs not getting along it's been a female/female fight to the death sort of thing. My males have always been much more tolerant of each other than the girls are.

I do think a pair of white standards would be breathtaking, but are you able to manage two females?

Either way, I know you more than deserve at least two poodles. (why not three? lol 2 spoos, 1 mpoo)

I would say try to meet them both and let Stella pick. I to am in the search for a 3rd dog and have decided with 2 standards i want to go smaller this time. I know Mandy gets along with most females and males but wonder if Casey will get along with another male.
So for me i have almost decided on a female but will not rule anything out. Everything takes adjustment.

Standard

Ms. Stella,

My two standards are 2 years apart in age and best friends, they play together, walk together, eat and sleep together. My heart just explodes every time I sit around watching them, they are inseparable. If one has to go to the vet the other sits in the picture window, waiting. I don't know what baby Lu did before Jordan arrived, they just have so much fun!

Are yours same sex or different? Player was a male and he and Stella got along great as far as dominance was concerned..I never noticed any nastiness..but Player would never try to take a bone from Stella..where she would from him.

Do 2 females have issues even if both have been altered? I've always had altered males so I don't know. But if it were me I'd definitely get the spoo! Especially after seeing oodlejpoodle's picture of her 2 white spoos cuddling! I just see 2 spoos playing together easier than a spoo and a mpoo, besides the fact that I can't think of anything more striking than a beautiful white spoo...let alone 2!! :) But I guess in the end Stella will tell you who she wants you to bring home if you can have her meet both beforehand.

A Stella grandbaby for sure. Having had standards that are related, it is a special thing to see certain things that are oh so familiar. Our first white standard was my husbands heart dog, and now after her being gone, we have a white standard male who is closely related and it's so comforting to see things that are parts of her. He has looks, and behaviors that are just like having a piece of her back. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

So true, two white standards would be sooooo lovely! I have two females and I think one of the reasons they work together is that one is more dominant and the other is not, so they don't fight. They both accept their roles, and they play together so well! So I agree with posts above to maybe let Stella spend some time with the new dog and see how they interact, and then base your decision on that. What a fun choice to make!

Good points

Thanks for the comments..
but I see that (as expected) its not an easy answer..there are many things to consider.

Yes, I HAD two standards before Player went back with Joy..they were super fun to watch, Lovely to look at, and he was a grand son to Stella..so it was all good except
---lots of grooming (but he was in show coat so not fair to
compare really)
----big food cost as I feed prepared raw (but could change that)
___Lots of dog to maneuver around...Player was always under foot..
maybe that was just "him"
-----but lots of fun, love and cuddles..

Two females--I thought of that. But there are many who have more than one and it does work out. I imagine that it would work out or they would show signs of not tolerating each other rather than have a bloody fight first thing...?? right?

The only reason for the mini is he is male (but I could wait and find a Stella Male grandchild eventually..and may get Player back in the next year) and a mini for ease of portability, grooming, and not having so much dog around :)

Decision made!! I finally did talk via phone to Stella's breeder. She answered all my questions. Madonna (the 2 year old female GD of Stella) is submissive..she lives with other females including her mother, Blondie...Stella's daughter...and does fine. She said Stella also lived with Blondie (which is a Stella's daughter, and mother of the dog we are getting Madonna) and they got along well. The breeder does not have any concerns about them getting along...but of course insists that she get Madonna back if it doesnt work out and they would refund us too. They are getting her spayed and stomach tack done tomorrow and we will likely get her this coming weekend!! She has lived as their house dog for 2 years except when she went to the handler for 3 months and she didnt like living there...would poop in the kennel, not preform in the ring...would do great when practicing but didnt like showing...so was sent home. I am happy that she hasnt lived in a kennel for long. So Im getting another Stella!!! Yea, :) If Player comes back to me then I may have 3 :) Time will tell...but Id have to own him outright and his breeder is not keen on that idea..no more co-owner situations for this girl!

I am so happy for you and Stella, she surely must feel the void too. Two Stella's, this is so great and if Player does come back.....the more the merrier! The only problem I have is keeping them clean (they are bathed weekly), the two girls love to go in the yard and rough house.

Congratulations!!!!!!! Can't wait for the photos!!!!!

Yes, they practically gave me Stella for free..she was 6. They have been very nice. I was nervous getting a dog the first time when we got Stella but Mike heard what we wanted and even though Stella was not listed anywhere as available..he offered her to us. It was a match made in heaven!

Same thing with Madonna. She was not listed as available until today. I have been talking with them over the last 7-10 days. I then got interested in the mini and sort of dropped of communications while I gave it thought. Today I saw that he listed her as available and I knew she would go fast...her brother was sold in 1 or 2 days..so that sort of pushed me to realize if I want her I need to decide NOW :) so I did.

Do you live in the Midwest Carley's mom?

Yeah! I am so happy for you and for Stella, I'm sure she misses Player too and I know you noticed your house was too quiet without a second spoo. So this is a happy surprise to make us all feel good. She is a smart girl, if she didn't like showing (and I understand some dogs love it) she found a way to let it be known so she could go for her real mission in life, friend and companion. Sounds like a win win for all concerned.
