Default help me pick a crate size for a mini?

S/he will probably be toward the larger end, both parents are 14", daddy has sired 16" pups before.

I'm considering a medium Precision Pets Suitcase crate, which is 30" long, 19" wide, 21" high.

Another possibility is Midwest Ultima Pro, and here I could go:
-small 25" long, 18.5" wide, 21" high
-medium 31" long, 21.5" wide, 24" high

Lol it's probably not a good sign for puppy's well-being that I can't even make up my own mind on this!

My 15" mini's crate is a
Petmate Vari-Kennel Ultra 18W x 21H x 28L Petmate Vari-Kennel Ultra 18W x 21H x 28L
. She can stand and sit without having to duck her head (though her poofy topknot does brush the top), and sleeps in it on her side with her legs out, no problem, though a larger dog may need another few inches all around. I do have a crate-mat over a piece of 2" eggshell foam in the bottom.

I have a mini puppy that is on the big side. I got a Midwest "Life Stages" crate. It comes with a divider panel, and it is being discontinued/clearanced out right now. I got my pup's crate cheaper than I can get wholesale, at our local pet store.

I got the 24x19 size. I have it divided off in half right now for crate and housetraining. He'll have a roomy crate as an adult.

With the divider panel, you don't have to worry about getting a crate that is too big, or having to buy multiple crates as your pup grows.
