Default Slimy Poop

I posted earlier about Casper not really wanting to eat. An hour ago when I got home from running errands, Casper went out to potty. He pooped and it was normal, solid. About minutes later we went for a walk and he pooped again (he usually does) but this time it was semi-solid, light brown/yellowish green, and had what looked like green slime/phlem. I'm taking him to the vet in about an hour but was wondering if anyone has any idea what this could be?

Sorry for the detailed description on his poop.

Did you save the poop? The vet will probably want to test it for parasites. Try to bring it with you when you take him in.

Obviously with him not eating and now soft stool with mucous something is going on with his tummy, not sure what but the vet will be able to advise.

Every time I hear 'green' and 'slimy' or 'mucousy' in connection to poo, I immediately think Giardia. Maybe because I've had plenty of experience with it in both dogs and cats .

I do know my neighbor's bichon was at the vet over the weekend and they kept him overnight; tummy and poo issues and throwing up, and not eating. Turns out it was some kind of bacterial infection from all the warm weather, muddy puddles, etc. and it cleared up within a day or so with flagyl.

Thanks everyone. Turns out, just like liljaker's neighbor, it's a bacterial issue. They gave him IV fluids, an antibiotic injection, Metronidazole, and Diarsanyl. On Sunday we took him to my son's baseball practice. The practice is at a middle school's field that is frequented by lots of dogs. There are also lots skunks/squirrels and dog owners let their dogs run around of leash. Although we were very vigilant about where Casper walked around, I'm thinking that maybe this is where he picked this bug up. Err...

Mine just got over a clostridium overgrowth, which I guess is a bacteria that is normally present in the gut, but shouldn't be in high numbers. She never stopped eating, but she was uncomfortable and had on-and-off runs and was pukey for about a week. They can get it from feces or decaying things. Albi is never off leash, so I'm pretty diligent to monitor her sniffing too. But they can pick up bacterial infections nearly anywhere, it seems. Especially now, everywhere is muddy and full of leftover decaying leaves. Someone's trash blew over around the neighborhood, some of it in my yard, and I had to get rid of what looked like chicken skin (ew) when she found it, and of course had to taste. I'm thinking that's were she picked it up.

Poor Casper... he is lucky to have such a vigilant owner. Hopefully he will be on the mend really soon.

Caspar has Sisko's sympathy, he just went through it as well. Similar meds and is now bouncing back. Get well Caspar.
