Default Funny, Scary experience

So yesterday I was out and about all day for a photo road trip and visit with some family. Due to the heat, the dogs stayed home, something they don't often do. I almost always have at least one of the dogs in the car with me if not all of them.

My son was home with them, but we were gone for about 12 hours. So on arriving home, we unloaded the car and my son came out to help, after several trips, we settle in to relax - suddenly, we notice Raven my 7 year old male spoo is not in the room with us. This NEVER happens, he follows me everywhere, including to the bathroom. So a search of the house followed, OMG, still no Raven! Check the yard, no Raven.

By this point, I'm pretty much hysterical, and have assumed that somehow he got outside while we were unloading the car. I grab the car keys, Paul grabs his keys, my son Kyle comes out too, we're shouting frantically, neighbors are coming out to help, we running up and down the street, thinking he couldn't/wouldn't have gone far, it's just not in his character to wander. It's dark out, almost 10:00. I jump in the car, floor it out of the driveway with my son in the passenger seat, neighbors are walking the streets. I roll down the window, start yelling his name.

SUDDENLY, I FEEL A HEAD ON MY SHOULDER!!!! HE'S IN THE DAMNED CAR!!! LOL I don't know how he did it, but he must have snuck out while we were unloading the car and climbed into the backseat while the door was open completely unnoticed by the three of us. I can laugh now, but I've never been so frightened. Raven has epilepsy, and I'm very protective of him. He has never in his life, ever run at large, or escaped from the house!Thank God for happy endings,

Wow you must have been frantic when you thought he was gone! I would loved to have seen your face when he put his head on your shoulder in the car when you were hollering for him! He was probably thinking...What are you talking so loud for? I am right here!

I loved hearing how your spoos love to go with you when you are out in the car. Mine too! I drive a small car and have stuffed poodles in the back windshield, and a poodle sticker on the back....and four standard poodles looking out all the windows. (Except the driver's side...I draw the line at letting them drive!).

That reads like a scene from a nice summer comedy flick.

That is a scary story but thankfully it had a happy (funny) ending. I'm sure he was wondering what all the fuss was about and why in the heck you were screaming his name! (I often wonder what poodles are thinking as they watch us humans run around seemingly chasing our tails.)

What a great story - we can all imagine how you went from an absolute panic to surprise to joy in just moments. It is enough to give a girl a nervous breakdown! So happy your story has such a happy ending.

That pretty much describes how it went - absolute panic to overwhelming relief and joy! Plenty of teary snuggles followed.

Hi truelove, you're a fellow Ontarian, anywhere near Ottawa? I'm just west of the big City, :-)
