Default Ways to get involved?

I don't have my *own* standard poodle yet, but I hope to soon. I am trying to find ways to be involved in the breed, but I am clueless as to where the best place is to start.

I have never had pet dogs before, but have raised service dogs for the past 2 1/2 years. I have always wanted to get involved in dog sports and such whenever I finally get a dog of my own, and that time is hopefully going to be here soon!

Any suggestions on how to get started, anything I can start doing now to help prepare, basically any advice at all will be appreciated. Thanks!

There will be kennel clubs and obedience clubs in your area. Sometimes you can find them by just searching on the internet or you can ask at you local feed store. (AKC.org will have clubs listed as well).

You should also try PoodleClubofAmerica.org and click on your state for an affiliated club.

**Membership to clubs is often invitation only. What you'll have to do is go - meet and greet and VOLUNTEER!

Good Luck!

Thanks NOLA! I will see if I can find something, but poodles aren't very common in GA it seems. I think that is why I'm having a hard time finding things.

They are not as common in SC either, at least standards are not. But they are out there and once you do a search for trainers, agility clubs or registry groups they will be there, just not in large amounts. I would check into Nolas suggestions and start going to watch practices and see whats going on. Sadly in remote areas it can be hard to find places that are competing to get into the know, so to speak

When you say going to watch practices, what exactly do you mean? What kind of practices? Sorry this is all really new to me

When you referred to dog sports. I would check out obedience/agility clubs.

Gotcha. I didn't know if you were referring to anything poodle-specific. I'm going to be checking around in my area and see if I can come up with anything.
