I am new to this forum. I am so excited about finally adding a poodle tom our household. The problem, if you want to call it that, is that I can't decide whether a standard or a mini would be best.
What I am looking for: a calm, sweet dog who wants to cuddle and be with me. While I am prepared for daily walks and games of fetch in the yard, I don't want a hyper dog who barks at everything. I do, however, want a dog who will bark to alert me when someone is at the door.
Either male or female is fine, though I have a slight preference for a male, as I have been told that they are sweeter and more devoted. While I like the idea of a "portable" dog, I am open to a big dog.
I have heard that standard poodle pups are really active when young and don't really settle down for 2 or 3 years. Others have found them easier to live with than minis. I know that grooming costs are higher for a standard, but that is something that I am prepared for.
I'd appreciate advice from those familiar with both varieties.
Thanks!
Anne
