April, our diabetic/Addison's weimaraner died this morning. She was two months shy of turning 13. Over the past several months, her diabetes has become impossible to manage. 15 units and her blood sugar is 428. 15 and half, it's 32.
Yesterday, April had a massive seizure that lasted an hour and a half. We tried raising her blood sugar, but the glucose just didn't work. During the seizure, we called the vet, planning on taking her in to be euthanized, when April snapped out of it. She got up and stole my hot dog off my plate. She snorkeled corn chips and... and... We thought she was going to be OK.
This morning, the spark was gone. April wasn't herself anymore. We made the decision to have her put to sleep. She passed away with her head on my leg. My husband is devastated. April was his dog and they were inseparable.
My heart hurts. I'm going to miss my party animal. She was such a good girl.

I'm so sorry for your loss of April :( She was such a beautiful girl and quite obviously full of personality (I love the stealing the hotdog story). You did right by her. I hope your puppy girl is providing a lot of comfort for you at this time. Hugs!
