I love Betty's stalking LOL! What a little schemer she is

OMG her bed shrank! She is a beauty--of course you are used to having that in your home .

Little Betty isn't quite as little any more.

She is 13 weeks, 3 days old today, and she weighed exactly 20 lbs at 13 weeks.

I took this photo early in the morning and she looks so innocent- not at all like the bitey little land shark she is :-).

She has attended her second Sirius puppy kindergarten class now. She loves people, but is wary around other puppies and has had some bad reactions to advances from other pups, actually growling and baring her teeth. The trainer gave some advice and we worked on it during the class. We are concerned about this since it is polar opposite of how Axel was at this age. Axel loved playing with every puppy on the planet.

In conjunction with their classes, Sirius offers puppy socials on a drop in basis. We have taken her to two Sirius puppy socials so far (they were all cancelled for the holidays). The first one was OK, but she still had moments where she was growling and seeming overwhelmed. The second puppy social we went to this Sunday went SO much better! It is the one in Los Gatos - they have two rooms and use Xpens to separate the puppies of different temperaments and energy levels etc. They initially put Betty in the quiet /shy group and she interacted OK with some pups, but growled at another one again. I asked the trainer about it, and she came over and watched her and after a minute, she put us into a different group of pups of a little higher energy/confidence level, and all of a sudden, Betty started playing and enjoying herself. The trainer spent several minutes carefully observing her to monitor her and all went well. No more growling and she was doing a lot of that play style of standing up on back legs. I wanted to kiss that trainer! We are definitely going back there next Sunday. I wish we had a little video of her "breakthrough". It was so cute watching her and I am happy that she is warming up to other pups.

I'm so happy Betty got a wonderful trainer to help her work through her little issue. Is that social run at Los Gatos Dog & Cat Hospital? I have heard great things. I honestly don't know why I didn't take Maizie there, but she got enough socialization in other ways anyhow, including her training class. Frosty's trainer here does the small play groups at first with compatible dogs. He started out with the small/shy breeds and has worked his way up to being one of the most confident. Having a good trainer who can take their cues makes all the difference!

It is at a shop called TRIM! on Santa Cruz Ave. I'm looking forward to taking her back there this weekend.

Sirius doesn't have any socials in or near our town, so we are doing a lot of driving to get her to her classes :-(. I guess the up side is she is getting a lot of practice riding in the car...

Betty is 14 weeks and 2 days old now. I weighed her yesterday and she is 21.8 lbs. No wonder it is getting harder to pick her up.

She isn't the best eater - she doesn't eat the recommended amount of food (shown on the dogfood bag) and I have been a little worried that she doesn't eat enough. However, she is growing and is playful and energetic so I am sure I worry needlessly.

She is the easiest spoo puppy I have ever had. While she is a typical spoo- lively and wild/playful, she also is SO quick to settle down and calm. It is really amazing to me.

She is doing really great in accepting grooming activities. I put her on the grooming table at least once daily for brushing. We have dremeled her nails a few times and she is accepting it just fine. Fairly frequently, I will shave her face and feet and tail, and she isnt worried about the clipper at all. She got a blow dry yesterday and she did well with that too. She is well aware of what poodle life is going to be and is taking it in stride- yay!

The photo was taken right after her bath/dry yesterday.

You got lucky with such a great puppy, but you're doing everything right to make her that way too!

My dogs never eat as much as is recommended on the dog food bag. I used to measure what I thought they needed and now I just know what looks right. Frosty and Maizie were both skinny pups for their first few weeks with me, but then they started adding a little weight over the ribs and spine. I've been topping their food with a sprinkle of Freshpet Vital and they just love it. They both eat a small meal in the morning and are much more hungry at lunch and dinner.
