February 17, a month later, 43 weeks. This is really a good stage. Hubby gives Lupin 3 walks a day, and this dog is naughty only in areas of my lack of training regarding sock-grabbing and not staying in the hallway if the entrance-door opens – so yes – to work on! He loves doing his few ‘tricks’ still and I hope to return to obedience classes this spring. At least he obeys ‘stay’ in other areas of the house. He needs repeats with the ‘off’ command regarding food on TV trays. His only really NEW thing is that he discovered the windows, and he makes a muffled woof sound if people walk by, and he barks if a dog walks by. He seldom barks overall, doing so for a shorter time-span now when getting a new bone. He also gets through a rib bone more quickly at 43 weeks. I cannot imagine how we did without him – how did we do without him? Thank you poodle breeders everywhere, you are angels of love! Signing off with a couple of Valentine’s themed photos, a few days belated, bye for now!

Lupin for St Patrick’s Day at 47 weeks:
Another month has passed toward those first 52 weeks. Lupin did well in his first winter because he was walked in any weather. Not much new in the past 4 weeks. I think he weighs approx 18 pounds. I must check what normal is for the minpoo. He eats 200 cal raw and 300 cal kibble, 500 cals total daily in two meals. Breakfast is after a walk, then supper. He gets the odd small treat too – a bit of our chicken or fish or a piece of apple or cucumber etc. He is so joyful! I will add a few photos and he really does need a haircut but we are waiting for warmer weather!
Til next month, happy poodling around!

Default Lupin's St Pat's Photo

March photos here - and Happy St Patrick's Day to all! ( These guinea pigs are 3 years old; naturally Lupin is not allowed in their area even though he is not a terrier, all the same this is as close as he ever got to them! )

Love Lupin's St Paddy's Day outfit and oh the pigs! I had pigs growing up as a child and would so like to have them again - so cute.

Lupin is adorable and clearly good natured letting you dress him up for holidays.

Thanks for the fun replies, and I will add that this pup was named on impulse by my husband a year ago, when I said ' pick a name ' and my husband replied instantly and we both thought of the flowers that did not begin to bloom until the day we went to pick him up from the breeder - they lupins were everywhere! All the same, my husband said there was a story character in his childhood ( 50s, 60s ) in Quebec, named Lupin, who was a vilain! Wolf is the Latin root of the name of this wild-flower too!

Lupin’s First Birthday 52 Weeks YAY!

The 52 week report is complete this month! Thanks so much, now I have a diary to review and I would never have done this without the forum. Yesterday on April 12 Lupin turned one! We went for a picnic in the park and he wore my grand-nephew’s first party hat. Too cold to get Lupin sheared yet. It was quite chilly yesterday!

General scene: He is getting three walks of up to two hours a day outdoors, he is a quiet, happy, goofy, playful dog who has still not faded in colour much for having a cream-coloured father. This month’s stress on us was his ingesting some stuffing from soft toys. Luckily it passed, but no more polyester stuffed toys! He has become attached to his ‘rubber chicken’ meanwhile, and I hope he will take more interest in balls, and retrieving them, but he only loves the cat-toy rattle ball so far.

In obedience I find he needs work by the front door at STAY, and his recall in the park could be better if I would buy better training treats perhaps? I have only used kibble. He comes 90 percent of the time especially on beaches, and does not run far from me. He does the push ups, the stool round and round turning, high five, shake, sit and stay ( livingroom ) recall, he obeys OFF and ENOUGH. But I forgot about trying to train for ‘ roll over’. He walks on two legs at times for a few seconds, very funny. His fast-walk dad outings are 7 am, 11 am, 3 pm and lots of evening play/tug-of-war and chasing a tossed toy.

He eats breakfast after a walk and dinner after a walk at 4 pm. His nose has turned pinkish brown, he wakes up around 6 to 6:30 am and is asleep around 11 pm for the night in his wire cage. Naps occur after exercise. He is seldom left alone and accepts it fairly well when it happens that he gets put in the cage for a short while daytime.

He walks just behind my husband who goes a good pace, but I allow outings just for sniffing around ahead of me ( spoiled! ) and slow paced they are. But at least he steps back so I go in the front door first – what got taught the first weeks were the easiest things to teach. My first and last dog as an adult so I am learning! I will send his birthday photos, and one of him in March after coming into the house with ICE fangs and I wondered at first what had happened to his teeth? Yes a very cold winter! Over!

Thanks so much for the 52 weeks idea to you Forum folks!
