Default 52 Weeks of Hibbert

I have some catching up to do, so bear with me.

Week 1: 15 Weeks Old, June 27th

After driving 5 1/2 hours, we finally get to meet our new boy! His given name was Hunter, but my husband the Pacer's fan, decided to name him after their center, Roy Hibbert. Thus, Hibbert became. He's going to be a BIG boy! Dad was 80 lbs and I'm hoping that he'll be close to 27 inches tall.

Week 2: 16 weeks

This was a busy week. He met the vet and got his rabies vaccine. We took him and Shayla (our lab/basenji mix) to the dog park. He wasn't quite sure what to make of the freedom and other dogs. I took him to work (I'm a groomer) for his first groom. He's a drama queen for his nails and face...but that will end soon. We are working towards an AKC puppy cut, maybe not as fluffy though. We'll see how much combing I/he can tolerate at home first.

The first picture are of our time at the dog park, and the second is after his groom.

Week 3: 17 weeks

This was a fairly uneventful week. The temperatures almost every day were 100*+! He apparently likes to be cool and found all the registers in the house and would rotate between them.

Here he is trying to stay cool.

Week 4: 18 weeks

Training class is going really well!!! He is such a fast learner. It's almost scary how smart he is! So far, he knows sit, down, roll over, and how to walk on a leash without pulling. The last one is definitely the most difficult. I made the decision to purchase a gentle leader, which seems to calm him down and definitely stops the pulling. Without it, he just seems to be all over the place trying to look at EVERYTHING!

Here we are passed out in the car after class.

Week 5: 19 weeks

Hibbert is definitely starting to slow down a lot and show his true personality. He's a huge goofball, or maybe a clown. He's also starting to show some silver on his back and between his back toes. I'm really hoping he keeps most of his dark chocolate and reddish coloring. The silver patch on his back is kind of odd though. It is the size of about a softball. There might be a hair here and there, but not in a large concentration. I'll try and get a picture of it soon.

He hasn't been as insistent about chasing cats, and definitely is starting to play with himself more after big sis Shayla is worn out/fed up with him. I managed to get a pretty good video of him playing with a squeaky tennis ball...basically playing fetch by himself.

http://youtu.be/fXQDvzMmnlE

The picture(s) of the week are after his most recent vet visit. He got a couple boosters and we set up his neuter. He also got to visit/hug and play with one of his favorite people! The other picture is of him snuggling after a brush out and nail grind at home. Thankfully, he's getting to the point where he isn't trying to play with grooming tools and I can rub his face, feet, ears, tail...basically everywhere, with him completely relaxed in my lap. He's still a bit of a drama queen for his nails though. He anticipates the grinder touching his nails and cries. Have to say he was a lot better this time though. Also can't say he'll be able to fit in my lab much longer. He's gained 4 lbs and what seems like 4-5 inches in the last 3 weeks.

Week 6: 20 weeks

We just got back from training class! He has been doing so great! It takes him one...maybe 2 tries to learn something new, and then he can do that new trick in class the rest of the night! Now, getting him to do the same thing at home is a different story. It seems like it should be the opposite, but with the cats prove to be a great distraction to learning.

Here is this week's picture from training class.

Week 7: 21 Weeks Old

Hibbert is finally starting to slow down a bit...either that, or I'm finally able to keep up with him better. He's becoming quite attached to me and will cuddle for a bit late at night after all his energy has run out. Training class is still going extremely well! He's getting "leave it" down fairly well and is starting to leave the cats alone.

Week 8: 22 Weeks Old

Snuggle time! Okay...it really only lasted for less than 5 minutes, but still. I groomed him again this week...and he's getting better with shaving his feet and face, but he still tries to milk it for all its worth. He's figured out that if he's hurt, he gets babied. So, now he fakes being hurt to try and get babied. I was able to get all 4 feet...including between his toes, and got all of his face. He tried to sit down while I was shaving his tail set, so its a little uneven...but oh well.

Hibbert is really cute! Isn't it fun having a smart dog that is easy to train? 80 pounds is an enormous poodle! My goodness. LOL Great pictures.

Thanks! I'm thinking dad was a bit overweight... but yet, a huge poodle! The vet is thinking that he will get up around 27" regardless. It's amazing how quickly he picks things up, but I wish he wouldn't have a mind of his own at home. ;-) He likes to get into things.
