Thanks, all! We made it home safely :) Maizie was GREAT in the car. I gave her Cerenia the first two days on the road and either she still had some in her system or she just didn't get carsick on the drive back. So great! Streetcar, we had to take Highway 5 home due to the wildfire. I never go that way, but it was awesome because we ran into some snow, so I got to let Maizie and Zooey have their first snow experience! I'll post pics when I get to my other computer.

As I posted in a video, we encountered snow on our drive home from L.A. So cool that Maizie got her first beach experience and first snow experience in one trip. She loved both, but the beach I think will be her happy place.

Well, I think I jumped the gun; I don't think Maizie's in heat yet. But her sexuality is certainly blossoming...(see pic--poor Fiona).

I took her out to lunch yesterday and she was perfect. The joint was packed and she didn't get too fazed by it. There was even a gigantic Great Dane who walked past us and she was totally brave with him! Several women remarked that she has gorgeous ombre hair. SO many people asked if they could pet her or they simply admired her. She and I love that attention :)

She got groomed today, which was very overdue. She was actually happy to see her groomer! Sorry for the bad indoor pics, which do not do her justice.

Fiona has a lot of patience I guess. Maizie looks great!

We've been having a lot of rain, but there was this beautiful moment today when the sun shone through the clouds and I let the dogs out to play. Don't get me wrong, Maizie loves to play in the rain. Yesterday she looked like a drowned rat!

Maizie is 39.9 lbs. and 23.5" tall.

She is looking a little big for her 42" crates now! I'm thinking of upgrading to 48".

She's been a pretty good girl this week. Lots of exercise = much better behavior in the house (duh, right?). We've enjoyed the dog park and off-leash romps at our park down the street. Our trainer is not offering the class we want at this time, so we're just having fun, hopefully retaining the basics, and we'll resume training at the next offering.

Thank you, Muggles--yes, I love her feminine face  It gets lots of kisses every day.

She is just so pretty! Love the picture of her and your Maltese! What a size difference huh?LOL!
Thanks, MollyMuiMa--they've been getting along so well lately. Zooey is 1/5 Maizie's size but definitely the boss. She's been very sweet to her baby sister, probably because Maiz has settled down a lot around her!

No major updates this week, except for learning that Maizie is the most sensitive dog to my emotions. She is such a love :love2:

Here she is: stacking at the park, after a good run; playing with Fiona; coming outside on the patio after rain; and deliberately walking in a puddle.

Maizie had her second long road trip this week and did great. Her highlights were the beach and that huge off leash dog park (pictured).

A new development is that she drools when she's anxious, not just when going in the car. For instance, the drool appeared when I was about to leave to go out to dinner at my sister's house, when I left her for a few minutes to get my coffee this morning, etc. Maybe a little separation anxiety?

She has been much easier to catch when she's off leash and she just generally seems less willful and more amenable. She is starting to prefer playing fetch with me to playing with other dogs. She also learned to go into her crate at night when I ask her to. Such a good baby :)

So interesting comparing Maizie's 1/6 pics to yesterday's and 1/21's. Your beautiful girl is developing quickly :). She's so balanced and her tail set seems wonderful to me.

She's clearly so in tune with you and how you feel at any moment (oh, so changeable after what you've gone through), that a bit of sep anx seems natural at this time. She's still so young, yet Maizie is clearly dedicated to watching over you.

Such a pretty girl!...........As she becomes more closely bonded to you is the time to start leaving her for periods of time thru out the day, so you will not have a problem with separation anxiety......when Molly was close to a year old she started getting anxious, but by leaving her, on and off for a few minutes at a time, and 'magically' reappearing several times a day.... (I just went out to my bldg walkway and sat on the steps for a few minutes) she became reassured I was coming back and it prevented her from developing a full blown case of separation anxiety!
I am so glad not to have THAT problem........one of my neighbors dogs HOWLS on & off for hours every time he leaves..........very annoying to the rest of us!!

At first she got a treat when I left and another one when I returned, but that was phased out so now...... I just leave!

Thanks, MollyMuiMa--I definitely don't want another dog with sep. anxiety (Zooey has taken YEARS to get over hers). I have worked up to leaving Maizie for 3 hours or so, but I've kind of plateaued there, mainly because I don't want to leave the house much (I've developed separation anxiety...). This week I'm starting a couple of classes, so we'll work up to an hour or two more per day of me being gone.

Great pictures! She is such a pretty girl.

When I first started leaving Rory for longer periods I'd scatter a variety of fun treats for him to distract him from me leaving, as well as puzzle food toys and a special toy that he loved that only came out when he was alone. Of course a lot of that is easier when you've only got one dog! To be honest I doubt Maiz would notice any difference between 3 and 5 hours. Hopefully she'll just be dozing away - I'm sure that's what Rory does when I'm at work!

Maizie had a bad day yesterday. She had a gastronomy to remove a toy from the dog park, plus a spay and pexy. She is very sad about having to wear the cone! Apparently, the next 3-5 days are the most critical after her surgery, so I'm hoping she'll heal well, without complications. Poor, poor girl :(

She will probably lose her beautiful coat, because she has horrible matting on her ears and legs from the ordeal, and I don't want to bother her with brushing right now.

I am sure she will be fine and that by week 45 she will be feeling all kinds of splendid even if she ends up nekkid. I wouldn't be grooming right now either, poor girl, poor you. Be optimistic though.

When Lily was spayed she left her incision alone. I brought a cone home but never used it. When one of my cats had a partial tail amputation she needed the cone, but each day I took it off in the evening when we were settled and quiet so she could stretch and groom. As soon as she reached for her surgical wound I popped the cone back on.
