52 Weeks of Nova
I'm a little late getting started... so mine will not be the full 52 weeks, but since I have SOOOO many goals for Nova and I, I think this will be a good way to chronicle those, and be able to look back at the end and see how much we accomplished!
As many already know, Nova was a rescue. She came into my life on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 and I am starting this from week one, our first week together! I have taken hundreds of photos it seems from this week, and it is incredibly hard to pick one. I love this photo of her riding in the car, though. She looks so human-like!
Accomplishments this week:
-Introduced to Odin (GSD) and Sonya (Spoo), and Maddox (Siamese Kitty) the resident furbabies and gets along GREAT!
-Visited Pet Supplies Plus and behaved like a champ. Tail up and wagging the entire time, and she was quite the show-stopper.
-Went to the dog park with Sonya. Behaved wonderfully and got along great with all the other doggies. Excellent off-leash recall, I never would have expected her to respond so well to me so quickly
-Went for several car rides... and discovered that she LOVES car rides.
-Started obedience training, which she thinks is a total bore. Made tolerable only by tasty treats.
-Went to dinner at Mirko, sat in outdoor seating and behaved as if she had been doing it her entire life. I think she really enjoys being a part of human activity.
I think that may be enough for one week! No wonder she is so tired!

Congrats! She is a beauty! We looked at parti's when we were looking for Russell. I love the unique patterns in their coats! I'm looking forward to your 52 weeks

Week 2
Into my second week of companionship with my Nova, and I am falling more in love each day. She is too good for words. This past week we started learning a few tricks! I found out Nova already knows "shake" and we are currently learning "crawl". We also have done a lot of heeling work, both on and off leash. I cannot get over how well she heels off leash. She will heel off leash even in a park full of other dogs!
The highlight of our week was a trip to Highlands, NC. We hiked in the mountains all weekend, and Nova had the time of her life! She got to swim in a waterfall, and she hiked off-leash the entire time. She is such a dream to work with and play with!

Week 3
Well, into our third week together! Nova is such a dream to have around. We did a lot this week. As some of you may know, I am working toward becoming a dog trainer. Nova and I participated in our first training lesson this week, and also helped with several training demonstrations. She performs like a star! I get nervous, but she just takes it all in stride. No problem jumping out into some stranger's yard and doing a few tricks! I'm also working on losing a few pounds along with Nova, and this week we hiked 5 days out of 7, with a 7-mile hike yesterday! We are having a blast together.
The picture this week is actually of Nova with my trainer's baby. I find it so ironic that Nova's first owners gave her up because they were having a baby, and Nova is amazing with babies! She would have been the perfect dog to have around a baby and a child. But their loss is my gain!

She was obviously well cared for and loved in her last home- how very lucky you are! She seems like too perfect a rescue plus you missed all those puppy antics. Great pics, too. I took my puppy hiking for the first time last week in the foothills near us. She did great, but as a puppy I couldn't take her very far. I am looking forward to when she is big.
How old is Nova?

It is very obvious to me that she was well taken care of and loved, and at least at one time had a lot of time taken up with her. She came to me very well trained and obedient, tolerant and patient. I agree that she seems almost too perfect to be true!
I got a note from her previous owners when I adopted her, and they said that she liked hiking. They were definitely right about that! She LOVES it. She will be two years in July. She has a good bit of stamina, more so than me lol! Part of me wishes I hadn't missed out on so much of her life, but someone did their part to turn her into a wonderful dog and that I am grateful for.
