I was thinking about this last night while I brushed Max. I use Crown Royale Magic Touch grooming spray when brushing and I like the way it smells but, then I am not a dog! He sense of smell is way better and mine and I was wondering if the scent in the spray bothers him because if I can smell it it may overwhelm him.
Not that I am advocating dog products with scents that appeal to dogs. That could be a little revolting but, why are there not more fragrant free product? Maybe dogs don't care but you always hear about their legendary sense of smell that this would be an issue.
I never thought of that! But since I have fragrance allergies, I always look for products that don't have much scent. I used to use a Chamomile Grooming Spray for my Pomeranian, and now I use an Oatmeal Conditioning Spray for Lily. It barely has a scent.
But considering dogs roll around in rabbit poop, or worse, maybe the smell of grooming spray won't bother them so much.
I had to laugh at this one cuz I usually don't use smelly stuff when brushing Molly , as I feel like the smell from her shampoo is enough. ( I use plain water) But when we 'go out' to a function I put a quick spritz of whatever I'm wearing on Molly.....which immediately sends her into a round of zoomies.....I guess it's a sensory overload LOL!
I think it's like with people...some dogs seem ok with scent, others don't. For example, Raven hates the smell of the moisturizing spray I use on his tk. He sees it coming out and glares at it, then when I mist it over him he pulls his lips up over his teeth in an awful grimace. However, it's the only spray I've found that works so he will have to get over it! Once I've sprayed it, he's fine, so maybe it's the actually spraying action he dislikes. Who knows....
Potsie (poodle) and Maddie (westie/bichon mix) both run when I pick up my cologne - lol! They can't stand it when I spray a little on them, and they'll both start rubbing themselves all over the carpet, against furniture, etc. trying to rub it off, I guess. As a result, I don't do it very often, even though it makes them smell nice!
Aria doesn't seem to care. I think she likes all the hugs she gets and compliments how good she smells. But I don't really use colognes. I use isle of dogs no. 16 shampoo and quadruped whitening protein shampoo. Both have great fragrance that is long lasting and te activating when she goes out in the rain
I don't know if Fritz likes the smell or not, but he sure seems to think Ice on Ice is tasty. When he is sprayed, he will try to lick it off as I am brushing him.
A lot of this stuff smells strong even to me, so I can't even imagine what the dogs are going through. So I try not to use anything that's heavily scented and I don't use doggie colognes and perfumes.
