I love Afghans and think they are absolutely stunning. I've heard weird things about them though.

How are they in relation to your poodles? I've talked to a few Afghan owners and many claim they are very stubborn dogs and not really a "velcro" dog like a standard poodle. Afghans are said to be more independent. Is this at all true?

I've only met two in person, and while I remember the dogs to be rather friendly they did seem to prefer their own space.

I really wish I could meet more in person. They're so beautiful.

Thanks everyone!

I will totally agree that afghans are not velco dogs, although this does not mean that they don't love their owners.....just they are a little more suttle about it. My brindle (not pictured) loves to lay on top of me while I read a book and has done this since she was a puppy, lol. They are independant, but when you have built a bound with them and they respect you, they will do their best to please you even doing somethings they believe is below their dignity, LOL. They make interesting obediance/agility dogs but i like the challege unique challenge of keeping it fun for them so, they learn quickly and become bored quickly too, LOL.

Here are a couple photos of mine interacting with me..... ^.^

And when my boyfriend isn't home....I find myself sandwiched between both afghans on my queen size bed, LOL.

Such a beautiful breed! Thanks for sharing that info about them, seems about what I have heard is mostly true, of course all dogs are different.

I always have some lady down the road telling me my German Shepherd will "turn on me" one day. This is the same dog who follows me around with her nose always having to rest on my foot, arm or some part of my body. I've been asked if she's stubborn and boneheaded and she sure is, but she's my stubborn bonehead.

Yes, a lot of misunderstandings can happen with outside observers of breeds, usually have one bad experience with them and then the whole breed is bad. **sigh** I never mind sharing info on my breed, they are my passion. So if you ever have additional questions....feel free to ask. :)
