Has anyone on the forum had any experiences with the invisible fencing? I'm curious what other poodle owners think of them or your experiences with using them.

My Great Aunt and Cousins have used them with very good out come and have since taken the collars off the dogs and they still respect the boundaries. They live in the country though and I am not sure where you live but I would think in a city I would just invest in either a permanent fence or some sort of kennel or run.

I have fencing but live in the country and do let me dog run around on our two acres and with Tuesday my standard she won't go far with out me and the other have all had OD training so they know how far they can go and when to come back.

We had just trained our collie on the invisible fence when we got Max. They both learned quickly but she just hugs the house whereas he learned the boundaries well and uses the whole yard. It is working really well. He seemed to pick up on the flags right away and now listens for the beep if he's trying to get a ball near the border. He penetrated it only one time when trying to follow me on a walk. I think that is the only correction he ever got. I tested it on my hand and it is more startling than anything, not painful. I like it especially because I don't have to worry if the dogs follow kids out the front door.

It's not so hard to teach them that they can leave the yard in the car or on the leash.

We may try this with moose when we move to the mountains... we may also put up a large chain link fence too not 100%.

Thanks for your replies. Of those that have used the fencing did you use the underground invisible fencing (professionally installed) or the "do it yourself" kind that PetSafe sells? I do live in the country and would definitely like to keep him confined to the backyard. He's already shown interest in chasing cars when he's in the front yard on leash. I'm working on breaking that urge.

We had it professionally installed. The company was Dogwatch. The good thing about them over Invisible Fence is that the batteries are not proprietary and so less expensive to replace. I have a friend who did his own and was happy with the results. I'm not sure what brand he used.

Chris, thanks for your reply. I've got a representative from DogWatch coming next week to talk to me about their fencing! I'm so excited at the prospect of Jackson being able to run off leash!!

You are welcome! Let us know how you like it. It is nice to have the dogs in the front yard as well as the back. If we had done a physical fence they'd be restricted to the backyard.
