Went to a nursing home today and to a hospice house. Stella is a total natural. She is so calm, so gentle and so willing (and happy to) visit with anyone. She even went up to one demented man in a wheelchair who was barking loudly at her and licked his hands..he loved it!
She was not stressed in anyway. We were there for almost 2 hrs. She could have done it all day. Im so proud of her. Of course her fluffiness caught every ones eye! She tried to get into the lap of a 90 year old lady in a recliner...that was a no no. The lady patted her lap to invite Stella to come up closer and Stella misread it. I half caught her so she did not land fully on the poor lady. The woman said it was ok..but that is one thing you have to watch for. These people are frail and Stella is 45 lbs. lol Stella is a cuddler and will let pretty much anyone hold her on in any position..even on her back craddled like a cat if you want to..so with all the people in comfy chairs, beds..I have to watch that Stella doesnt misunderstand and jump in someones lap..lol
Oh she looks great! She's absolutely beautiful. I long for the day that I can do therapy work with my poodle, sounds like so much fun! Kudos to you and Stella for doing such wonderful volunteer work.
She is absolutely stunning! You must be so proud of her.
Yes, we were told the same thing about watching them closely. The elderly have very fragile skin and it would be so easy to tear it among other things.
I imagine that everyone LOVED her. I know if I was in a facility, I would love to have her visit with me.
You have got yourself one special girl! I bet your heart soared watching her give others joy. And I bet your heart lurched when she wanted to jump in someones lap!
Just shows how our dogs are so human, and such a big part of our lives. We LOVE them in our laps, and the little pat is the green light for joining us.
What a gift to have a calm, loving dog, and how wonderful of you to share her gifts.
Your Stella really does the works of angels, as well as looking like one. The immense comfort, acceptance and happiness she brings to those in need is a real tribute to the poodle-person bond. It is SO WONDERFUL of you to share her gifts with others, especially those so in need of such outstanding kindness. You clearly have a heart of gold yourself for doing what you do. Thank you for easing the pain of others and for sharing your lovely girl and her story. She is just beautiful, inside and out!
Thank you all for your kind words...its so awesome to share Stella with others..in therapy work and here on this board. She is a big part of my heart. She came to me for a reason Im sure. I, like many of you, feel so blessed to have her in our lives. Thanks you again! I love sharing and reading about your poodles too.
Such a beautiful girl. I would love to do therapy training as well. Is it limited to standards or can minis get certified? I have only heard people with bigger dogs talking about it.
Wow she is beautiful and your day sounds like it was incredibly rewarding! I would love to be able to do that with Portia some day... At the moment, she's still got that puppy "hi strung" temperament - Looking forward to the calmness of adulthood (hopefully! lol)...
Thank you for sharing your photos and story... It warmed my heart on this cold January day
I'm very jealous! I used to do therapy with Ginger but she just couldn't stand the heat of the retirement homes, no matter how short her hair was.
What's your secret?
