Default Update on Jupiter

Jupiter's been doing pretty well on his meds for the past three months. He's particularly peppy in the mornings, and is glad to run around for a few moments. Mostly he has been sleeping, but he's been well enough to go for a short walk most days. I am deeply grateful for the high-quality time his meds have given him.

When Arreau came to visit with Pearl, at the end of October, I was a bit worried that this would all disrupt Jupiter's routines; but Arreau's partner and Jupiter got along fabulously and that made it a special visit for my little old pup.

Lately Jupiter has been having some slightly manic moments, interspersed with more normal times. What's newly worrying is that he is having great trouble getting up from hard surfaces; he's had that for a while, but this morning twice it wasn't possible for him and he needed help, and he'd peed himself while trying. And last night, I woke up to hear whimpering and a bit of knocking. I thought it was just a fairly routine request to go out but instead he had somehow gotten under the (low, platform) bed and couldn't manage to propel himself out.

So I've called the vet to consult with him, to see what he thinks. Right now, as the day has developed, Jupiter's OK; but I'll need to see how to confine him when I go out so that he doesn't wind up stuck on a bare floor. There's plenty of rugs around, but I don't trust him anymore to plop himself down there where he gets the traction to get up.

Would snow booties give him better traction on the floors, or would that be too upsetting for an old soul? Gentle hugs to Jupiter.

Wow, what good ideas! Thank you.

I think not booties because he hated them when we lived up north, but paw wax I will try. Will let you know!

There's also a product called Paw Friction that might help. PawFriction
If his nails are long enough, there's also those little rubber nail caps or rings to give traction.

Thanks for the update. I am sorry he's had a couple of unsettling moments in the last few days, but you are so wise in how you are handling it. I hope you find a good way to help him be able to get himself up from a hard floor. Hugs to you all.

Awww Buddy!!! We do love your little man. Bruce took such a shine to him that I keep telling him we need to look at a mini for him. Give that sweet wee character gentle hugs from us and we will be praying.

**** I just read Bruce your post, and he teared up and said to tell you he " is rooting for the little guy".
