Most breeders have health testing on both sides of the pedigree, for several generations at this point. Ask for it, look it up on the data bases, get clarity on any history that raises a flag for you.
Most breeders will volunteer the information, because they are proud of the work they have done to produce puppies that are conforming to the breed standard and are healthy additions to a family, whether you are showing, working, hunting, or merely holding down the couch....
If your breeder is evasive, that's a red flag, in my opinion. Just like internet dating, you can put anything you want online, but in the end, there's going to be no denying that that guy sitting across the table is not a successful executive, 6 feet tall and 180 lbs, with a modelling career on the side...
