Drinking from the toilet??? Aside from the "ick" factor - is it really harmful?

Is there an actual danger to the dog drinking from the toilet in a home where healthy people use it?

We do actually provide fresh drinking water for him, and change it several times a day, but there seems to be some appeal to that big porcelain bowl in the bathroom! I try to keep it shut, but everyone is not quite so diligent here...

He also sticks his head in the shower, and drinks from puddles and ponds whenever the opportunity presents itself....

:dontknow:

Thanks for any help in this...

As long as you are careful about keeping him away when you use cleaners, etc, and don't use any of the long-lasting blocks, he should be fine. My cats got int the habit - and the only answer seems to be to keep the lid down!

I have had a couple of dogs in the past that would open the lid on their own! I was too lazy to get a chilc safety toilet seat lock since we don't use chemicals in the toilet and it's not harmful to dogs.

Thankfully no toilet-drinkers now! I hat the sound and the drips on the toilet seat!
