I went this morning and had Bonnie's hips xrayed for an OFA preliminary as I move forward with her testing. The breeder as well as people here suggested a preliminary because if it was poor you save all the money on the other tests.
I just mailed her film off to OFA. The vet told me he would read it as OFA excellent! AWESOME! He also warned me that they are pretty conservative in their readings and may read it as GOOD, but either way her hips at this point are great. I will have to repeat them when she is two, but at least I know it isn't a waste of money to move ahead with things.
The breeder has warned me it will be difficult to find a nice sire with appropriate full testing, is good looking, who is fullsized and will agree to be bred to Bonnie. :( boo hoo. She said many of the best sires will not breed to any dog with a mini anywhere in their line. It's that mini three generations back, but the breeder sticks to her guns that she did the right thing. I guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it.
