Rally O in Rapid City, South Dakota
I know there are some forum members who don't think it's a very big deal to obtain a Rally Novice title, but for those of us just starting out in the sport, it feels as though it is a great accomplishment!! After all, you have to start SOMEWHERE!!! Right??!!!
Anyway, my husband and I attended 3 shows in Rapid City, SD on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and David helped Meau achieve her Rally Novice title. We won't stop here (hubby is HOOKED!!!) and Lucy will be next to compete (we just need to get her American registration sorted out and we'll be taking her into the ring, too) We'd love to take both kids as far as we can in Rally and, although we're not as familiar with traditional obedience, it's facinating to watch and we may see about trying other performance events!
On Friday, and their first foray into the rally ring EVER, Meau scored a 94 and won her class! Personally, I think that helped cement things for David who can have a pretty competitive streak at times!! He was so proud of our little girl - she's still a beginner, but she really wants to please him! On the second day, she lost concentration on the LAST exercise of the pattern (when a golden retriever barked nearby) and David couldn't connect with her again. She lost 10 points for not completing the exercise, but since it was the last one and she had done well up until then, she scored an 84 and qualified easily. On the last day, she took third place with a 93 and completed her third leg for her Rally Novice title.
It was such a fun weekend with good friends who drove down to South Dakota with us (two of them were competing in Rally too, and one was also showing her 6 month old IG bitch in Conformation)
We had adjoining rooms at the hotel and opened the door between the rooms and let the seven dogs we had with us collectively, run between the rooms - If I would've known how fun this was before, I would have had my rescue mini dachshunds listed with AKC and started sooner! And, although AKC welcomes mixed breed dogs in their performance events, each local club can decide whether to allow them or not - Rapid City did not allow the mixes. :(
If you want to see more pictures of our weekend, and you're on facebook - search for the Bismarck Kennel Club page and "like" us. You can see a bunch more Rally pictures along with our Fashion Show and Meet the Breed pictures!! Here's one snap of David and Meau, getting down to business!! (And, yes... we know her form could be better - she's a little distance from him and her sit is a little crooked, but these are all things that we'll enjoy working on this winter when there aren't any shows to drive to in our region!)
We also got to see cbrand's Delilah compete in Conformation! We happened to be walking past the poodle ring on our way to meet with our friends and walked right past Delilah! I spoke with her handler for a moment and wished them luck - Delilah is more beautiful in person than in the pictures we get to see here!! All in all it was a FABULOUS weekend - can't wait to do it again!!

Way to go David and Meau! I am so proud of you guys. It is remarkable that she got her title first shot at it. That is quite an accomplishment. As you know, when it is Lucy's turn, I will be climbing out of my skin. Yay, yay and yay!!!!

Any owner out spending quality training time and exercise with their dogs is already a winner! Ribbons and titles are just icing on the already sweet cake!
Congrats to Meau and your hubby being hooked!! It is a wonderful feeling to see your dogs excel and it doesn't hurt to feel a little proud of yourselves. Brag away!

Big congratulations, Plum, on a successful first outing!
Regarding registering a CKC dog with AKC, I feel your pain... You know one option is to just ILP her, as even with full registration you have to submit photos. I just think it's ridiculous that AKC won't grant you limited AKC if you have limited CKC.

It will be okay with the registering of Lucybug. Because I know and love Plumcrazy, I have lifted the non breeding agreement. With the full registration now on Lucy through the CKC, there should be no problem switching her registration over to AKC. In the future, I will do the same for anyone once they provide me with proof of spay or neuter if they wish to enter their dog in performance events.

Thanks, everyone! I am definitely blessed that my husband is completely hooked on this performance event. We discussed who would be handling Meau and we agreed that he'd do it - Now he's ready to progress!
