Quincy is going to be going for his CGN is February!
Well, Quincy and I have started practicing his "sit/stay" and "down/stay" in preparation for trying for his Canine Good Neighbour certificate on February 25th. I have to decide if he'd do better in a sit or a down, have to turn my back and walk away from him 9 meters (nearly twenty feet) and have him stay until I release him. This is just one of twelve exercises we have to accomplish before he gets certified. So, cheddar cheese in hand and down to the basement we go. Today was our first day of practicing this, and he has not screwed up once in three sessions. He lays there with his tail thump, thump, thumping on the floor. I say "OKAY" and he comes bouncing over for his treat, then we do it again. No other part of the test had me nervous, because having been shown has readied him for the rest of it, but I was certain, I'd turn my back and he'd follow me. Well...what a pleasant surprise. Seems he is willing to do anything for cheese, and to make his Mama smile. I will get Bruce to video tape his practice session later this week. We are going to attempt it with one of the other dogs roaming around so he gets used to doing it with distractions too. I love my little black boy! Obedience is calling!

Thanks Deb. Hopefully by the time we do the test, he will be an old pro! He has me very excited about obedience too because he is so eager to please! I'm going to have to get some wieners so we can change up the rewards and he does not get bored. Although right now he is all about the cheese. He sees me going to the fridge and he is right there waiting, just on case!

I took the test with Phoenix one day after a show just because. We passed no problems first try without even knowing what we needed to do. But laid back barely describes how mellow Phoenix is. Quincy will do great! I holding off with Sookie for a bit as she loooves meeting people and wants to stand on her back legs to kiss you. We are learning 4 on the floor. Good luck!!!!!

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I am pretty pumped! Quincy is a big kisser too. Do you feel the ring experience helps them be prepared for it?

I think the ring experience really helps. Walking through crowds, beside other dogs, greeting new people, grooming- really its most of the tests!
