Default Editing an old post -- Forum mods please help!

I have a question about being able to edit an old post. There is a post on here where I mention some names of some puppies that I didn't realize should be kept confidential and I would like to be able to go back and change that. There are also some images on this post that the people in the images have requested that I remove. Is there any way to be able to go back and edit or remove a previous post like this?

I always wondered about this too! The other message board I frequent allows you to edit your posts indefinitely, but others can see what you've changed (and of course the Mods/Admin can as well). It would also be helpful if one could delete an entire post. (The "shadow" would remain as there would be a "Rowan--deleted post" line but otherwise, no more post.)

Is this something we can change or update?

Remembering that one mod is sittin' in Canada with her feet up. Probably playing with dogs, pigging out on Turkey, havin' a cup of tea and chattin' with good friends.

I have never wanted to edit anything until recently. I looked up how to do it. It said to email the moderator and they can remove it. I emailed the mod on 10/2 asking if he or she would remove a piece of a short paragraph that in retrospect I felt uncomfortable with. It wasn't about anyone, there was no opinion and no controversy in it, just a personal bit.

I gave the post number, copying the few sentences within that paragraph and then stating my reason for wanting it removed. I received a reply on 10/3 that he or she would review the request with the mod team. I thanked them and requested to be notified of their answer. It is 7 days since my request. I am waiting for the decision. For all I know they are mobbed with requests, but that is how you do it according to the instructions.

Rowan, I think it would be nice to have the option of editing out a whole post, too. I belonged to a group where there was someone who got cold feet because someone in their personal life was unhappy with them posting in that forum. They were able to remove all their posts and pictures, putting their mind at ease. It would be nice to have more flexibility here, too. Many boards do allow that.

Other boards have posts that drop off after a certain amount of time (three or four months) so things are not on here for eternity. It makes searching for things less effective, but it can also be an option for a board in the public domain.

Yep!!! That's me!!! Having a ball in Canada! There is a time limit during which a member is able to edit their own post. I think it's 8 hours. After that, a moderator or administrator will have to make any edits. Sookster, if you want to send me a private message about which post you need edited and what you need done, I'll see what I can do.

Outwest, if you send a private message to me (moderator) rather than to the administrator, you may get a faster response. The administrator is in charge of many, many forums and has a lot on his plate, the Poodle Forum is the only one I moderate, so I usually can get to things a little more quickly. Although, like Countryboy mentioned, I'm on vacation at the moment - but I can get to a computer occasionally.

Let me know what y'all need done (by private message if you want) and I'll see what I can do! Thanks!!

Barb

Oh, I thought I was supposed to send a message to the admin person. I didn't fully realize the structure of the board. Thanks for clarifying.

PS I am pretty sure you can only edit for one hour, not 8.
