New member, too.

Hello, my name is Gwen. I have a 4-year-old standard poodle named Charlie and live in the Ottawa area. He's my first poodle and my first dog. At the dog training school they call him "bulletproof" because they can stick any of the cranky dogs next to him and he'll win them over. Damned if I can get him to come when there's a cat/squirrel/deer in the area though. I'm here because I thought I knew a lot about dogs until Charlie instructed me otherwise.

Indiana, I was able to find pictures of your girls in your profile. They're beautiful!!! And so well groomed. Even though I've had Charlie for 4 years, I'm still ashamed to walk him in public for a few days after grooming him. Fortunately, after the hair has grown out a bit, it just looks like I was going for a messy look - and most of the people around here don't know what he's supposed to look like anyway.

Thanks! Gwen, about the grooming, I am just learning; I used to work as a groomer many years ago before I had kids but to tell the truth, we groomed almost exclusively poodle crosses and shih tzu mixes, and all in pet clips. I had a lovely little Bedlington I was showing at the time so hers was the only show clip I ever learned (I handled my friends' standards in shows but she groomed them into show clips, I just roughed them in). So now I am trying to learn how to groom my girls, basically with a book open at my side, lol! This forum is extremely helpful in that as well as other topics though. Anyway the important thing is enjoying them as dogs, grooming is just the window dressing :)

Found this Forum as I was researching Service Dog information. And it looked like you have several active members who have lots of good information.

I am owned by two toy poodles at this time.
Cassandra 7lb 13 yr old spoiled grey toy. Self Trained DAD
Zoe 14lb 14yr old spoiled grey toy.

Both full blooded Sisters that mean the world to me.
In recent months they have both developed heart murmurs and congestive heart issues. So I am researching a future dog for after they are gone, which I hope is another 20 years from now. Trying to decide between the largest standard I can find, or a 7-10lb toy.

Both sizes have advantages, but after the bad luck my mom had mixing little dogs with her big happy bouncy clumsy standard poodle not something I am willing to do. So very hard long researched decision to make.

BTW I love both sizes.

Hi txscyn, and welcome to the forum. It might be a good idea to put your intro into a new thread - more people will spot it there.

(And we LOVE photos on here!)
