My fiance and I are very excited to have a new puppy. He is a 4-month-old standard poodle who we have named Dude. Chocolate with the most enchanting amber eyes.
Pictures to come once I can get him to sit still long enough to snap something better than a brown blur haha.
We also have a Havanese pup named Rapunzel who will be a year old on December 7th. She is an amazingly well behaved dog who loves anyone she meets and is constantly trying to impress us with her tricks. She is extremely playful and the reason we decided to get another dog. We just can't wear her out no matter how much fetch we play!
Right now both both of our pups weigh almost exactly the same, right around the 13.5lb mark. From what I've read on here, that seems really small for a standard puppy @ 4 months, right? He was the smallest of his litter, and that is what we wanted, but I'm wondering if we should be concerned since it seems like he weighs half of what others did at his age! Any ideas on how big he might get?
At first I worried about him being too big and too much for Rapunzel to handle, but right now even though he is twice as tall as her, she is the one who is too rough on him, believe it not! Poor guy gets knocked over all the time. I hope they will be great playmates once Dude gets more comfortable running around and playing. He is still a little awkward with his big long legs
Dude isn't aggressive at all, but I do know that standards have a prey drive. Anyone else have experience with a standard poodle and a smaller dog? I'd like to know what to expect.
Thanks! So glad to be joining this forum. It seems like this will be a great source of info and community!
