Im so glad I found this forum. I now feel justified to love my poodle this much, because its obvious that here everybody loves their poodle the same way. I am just comming to realize how special these dogs are. I have a 6 month old Parti Standard poodle named Dexter. I wasnt sure I would ever be able to have another dog. We had a Golden Retriever that passes away 5 yrs ago now from cancer. I took it very hard and could not imagine another dog. After a few years I thought I wanted another Golden. Hubby said No because of all the hair and there was alot of it back then, I have to admit. I even entertained the thought of a doodle. Wheww that was close...lol.

Anyway Im not sure how it happened but I found myself looking at a breeders ad for Dexter and I fell in love with that pic on the spot. The only problem was he was in Florida and I was in New Brunswick, Canada. That didnt stop us and we now have a puppy that I never thought I could love so much. Growing like a weed...he is getting so tall.

This forum has helped inform me alot. It has already given me info about health, grooming, trims, and adult hair that comes around 1 yr I suppose.
Alot to learn and Im looking forward to it.

Oh and BTW hubby LOVES this dog. He allows him on the couch, bed and even his new truck. It really helps that they are non-shedding.

Welcome to the forum! Lovely area you live in! My father was born in Bathurst and we've been contemplating moving to Nova Scotia. Gotta love our Maritime provinces. Would love to see photos of your boy!

My dad told me that he took me fishing on the Miramichi before I was 2 years old. I was thru there again a couple of years ago. A beautiful spot!

Thanks. I love it here this time of year. I cant wait for Dexter to see his first snowfall too.

Also, Im glad to see a connection to this area. I assume there is not too many standard partis here because so many people ask me what kind of dog he is and they are surprised when I say poodle. I guess they are used to smaller ones and a solid color with short curly hair ...and Dexter still has his baby hair.

Hi Cindy - I too am from Miramichi (Sunny Corner) ..... what a surprise :-) We have 2 Standards, 1 cream 8 y.o. and 1 blue 3 month old. Our boy is from Ontario and our baby girl, from Nova Scotia. I was reading one of your posts, and I too get asked all the time what he is. When I tell them, they look at me like I have 2 horns coming out of my head. lol lol. I've only met a few who actually know what he is. Roz at the TD in Newcastle also has Standards, as well as a family member from The Candy Cottage. Maybe we could meet up sometime - perhaps the park? Anyways, it's great to know there is another Standard lover close to me. Janet

Welcome to PF. I thought it was funny to see two new members back to back from New Brunswick, but from the same town, how much of a long shot is that? I have traveled extensively in Nova Scotia many years ago. You live in a wonderful part of the world. I hope to make it to New Brunswick sometime.
