Hi all, I'm a soon-to-be standard poodle owner in North Carolina. I found a great 1.5 year old spoo nearby in Virginia, and after meeting her, I think she'll be a great fit. Her breeder is going to bring her down to me in NC in a few weeks - very excited.
Hmm, I am still deciding. She is currently named Silvianna (Sylvie for short), but her breeder said it wouldn't be a problem for me to re-name her if I so decide. Is that weird? I've never had a dog that was already named, and all my former dogs had names that were personally significant to me (my last Shih Tzu was named Siegfried after my favorite character from a Wagner opera). Personally, I'd be a little miffed if someone adopted me when I already knew my name and then they decided to change it!
Her registered name is Sunridge Alluring Gemstone - so I was thinking of going with Elizabeth (Liz? Lizzy? Beth?) after my favorite female philosopher (I work in academia), Gertrude Elizabeth Margaret Anscombe (G.E.M. Anscombe). So, in a round-about way, that has a connection to her registered name, as well as some connection to me...
How exciting! Are you going to keep her name, or change it? I got Sunny at 3 years and decided to keep it ---- I figured he needed something to remain the same!!! Have fun.
Sylvie is a nice name and I've always named my dogs. Since I called my Lhasa "Puppy" and didn't change it, he always kept that name. She would probably adapt very well to whatever you wanted to call her.
