Default Newest Family Member GiGi

I would like to formally introduce the newest member of our family, GiGi (originally named SD5) I got her from Poodle Rescue Sunday, January 29. She was a voluntary surrender from a breeder along with about ten other dogs. She is 7 or 8 years old and was probably used in their breeding program. I believe this breeder must have lavished attention on all her dogs and had them groomed regularly since little GiGi seems to be so well adjusted mentally and very good on the groom table.

I saw her about a month ago and really liked her but was torn about how Sasha would take it. Last Sunday while grooming at Poodle Rescue, I saw that she was still there and another girl who is new to the program (new people need to be paired up with someone that has been there for a while) and I happened to get SD5 (now Gigi) to groom. The more I worked with her the more I admired the little thing.

Most of the other dogs that came in with her were adopted already and it seemed like she had just been waiting for me to adopt her. After grooming class, I asked about adopting her and was told I could. I called Bill and he was an angel, he just asked if I wanted to take on 3 dogs, of course I said yes, and he said bring her home. She is so tiny she weighs only 4 lbs right now but we plan to get some weight on her. She is entirely too thin.

I asked Bill to name her since he was so wonderful about letting me get her, and I did name Sasha, so Bill named her GG because I kept calling her Good Girl. She is making herself right at home. I can not believe how smart she is. I showed her where her food & water bowl was and she went right back to it later after exploring the house. She didn't go to Kirby's bowl or to Sasha's bowl, she went to her own. Then yesterday at lunch she followed me into the bedroom and climbed the stairs to get onto the bed and I only showed her once the night before! I am scared to death she is going to get hold of one of our credit cards and go to town on the internet!

She is the sweetest little thing, she follows me everywhere. She has not had an accident in the house and every time I take all the dogs out to potty she does her business. She is a brave little thing, nothing seems to upset her. She is not afraid to set the other dogs straight either. Kirby our 17lb pomeranian (large for a pom) sniffed her one too many times and she growled at him to let him know enough was enough, the look on his face as he backed away was priceless! She seems so happy, she waggs all over!

They all seem to get along well, Sasha is a little mopy right now and is making an effort to ignore me. I have been lavishing attention on her so hopefully she will get her nose unbent soon and realize it isn't so bad having a sister. Kirby on the other hand acts like GiGi has been there all the time.

She sounds perfect for you -- altho Sasha may be a bit miffed! Congrats on choosing such a little winner. I have 4 poodles total and with my new puppy there is definitely a period of adjustment.

Oh my goodness. Just look at that little face! No wonder she convinced you that she was the one for you. I'm glad to hear how bright she is and well she is adjusting. I'm sure it won't be long until Sasha figures out having a sister around isn't so bad.

Aww she is so cute! I check the rescue website almost everyday to see what's going on. Glad she found such a loving home! I would have ended up with three poodles already... but sadly I missed out on two wonderful dogs. One was a black mini I volunteered to groom last year (of course he is long gone), but he was the sweetest dog. I'm still kicking myself for not getting him. And the other is a black standard that I waffled back and forth on... and of course he got adopted. I still regret not acting fast enough but the rescue sure does have some sweet dogs! Glad the dogs are finding nice homes.
