If that's the case then clearing your cookies (search engine history too) might alleviate the problem to some extent. However, I saw the same ads that CharlieMyPoodle did (last night), and the only topics I've searched on recently are "sump pump drainage systems," "fence types," and "walkway design."

I still think it's a "key word" issue as this ad just appeared at the bottom of my screen and I haven't searched on anything related, however we have mentioned the topic (indirectly) within this thread:

Default The 1960's

I think this has been happening since the movements of the 60's and now it's blatantly everywhere and hard to not be exposed to such things. I used to believe that tv and movies didn't affect my view of the world when I was growing up, but I've changed my mind with a longer perspective.

Some parents with whom I was acquainted, sent their children to a private school, went with them out of the house, and only allowed 1 hour of "Animal Planet" daily. It sounds maybe extreme and apparently necessary in their view to keep their "family values" intact.

I have ads for American Girl, Turbo Tax, and asthma medicines (all things related to me or my kids). Haven't seen any singles ads yet!

There are too many "ads" everywhere, now. And the internet is supposed to be free. We still pay alot for it to be exposed to questionable ads and sites. Ditto tv, etc. and even the post office is loading the mail with unsoliticed ads to help with their bottom line. :(

Gotta agree with that! That's what we have ad blockers and shredders for.

I am sure her will...the Doodle ads disappeared.
While I feel the same way about ads for selling Doodles, I think the ads I am referring to are much more damaging. That's how I feel anyways.

You are simply wrong.
And I do clear my cookies on a regular basis.
It is a combination of key words and careless advertisement permissions.

One more thing... I usually access the forum on a school computer, a MacBook. I am a school teacher.

You should know that school computers are highly monitored for inappropriate browsing. The computer has such strong firewalls that it won't even allow a visit to an inappropriate website.

It is not my computer that causes this.

This is taken right from the ad banner:

AdRoll works with brands to provide ads that are relevant and useful based on anonymous browsing information, and we do not collect or store your personal information. We also believe in providing transparency & control over the type of ads that we show you. Please access the below links for more information.

This has been happening for a long time. Whatever I do a search for on Google ends up as adds at the top of the page. I don't know how this works, but I do know that is what is happening. Right now I have Eukanuba puppy start adds because I was searching for puppy packets for our next litter.

This should be reported to the administrator of the site or at least to Barb Plumb (plumbcrazy) so that she can pass it on. I am sure there must be a way to filter these things out.

It's funny how this is only happening on this forum, not other forums that also have changing ads...

This is repeated by some forum members, but it is simply not true.

The nature of the ads being displayed is determined according to the ad package being allowed and also according to key words, but key words can be disabled.

There are ways to display ads that have no inappropriate content.
I speak from experience. I also sold ad space before on at least four websites/forums.

One of the website was a weight-loss site, and we sold LOTS of ad space, including google ads. Not once did we have such a problem. Another was a music website for lessons and other resources. Same story on the ads. Never happened.

But I already spent too much time arguing about this. I will stop now. I was simply trying to make a point.

Movin' on...

CharlieMyPoodle

Thanks for posting this thread, and for commenting on your insight and experience. I know nothing about how ads get on websites and learned some things in the discussion.
