Too Bad When Threads Are Deleted...
I hate the nastiness and member bashing as much as the next person.
But there's been a lot of very valuable information on several recent threads that's gotten dumped along with the posts that were offensive. Some of the people who posted put a lot of time and effort into their posts....and now all that hard work and the information that is of benefit to many is gone. Poof!
One poster has communicated to me that it really disheartens her and she'll likely not make another long, well thought out, informative post. I can understand her point, but we all lose out if that happens. One could say "well, don't make long posts on a contentious thread." But it's really hard to tell what will set some people off and suddenly a serious discussion turns into the forum equivalent of a street riot.
Admin, is there some way to just delete the offensive posts from an otherwise useful and informative thread? Or leave the thread visible and close it to further posts? Please?
What's happening now is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. And it penalizes all of us for the disrespectful actions of a few.

A'n' A Mom: Excellent point and brilliantly made! Perhaps logic and cooler heads will prevail in the end. Either way, THANK YOU and the others for all the time, effort and information you shared--I learned SO MUCH from the on-topic posts!!!!!!!!!!
This episode reminds me of my son coming home from school really glum one day because the whole class got detention when one student acted up. He was then eight, but had the good sense to see punishing all for the transgressions of some was pointless.

I have to agree, and I fear I might be putting my head on a chopping block by doing so (I hope not). I'm a member of a very large writers forum. Membership now stands at approximately 35K members--35K people of varying backgrounds, beliefs, ideals and opinions. And all of them aspiring or published authors.
Before I go any further, I realize to 'each their own' and that every board administrator / owner has the right to run their board as they see fit. I fully respect that.
Having said that, threads aren't deleted on this (my writing) board. Ever. They are sometimes closed, posts deemed truly offensive are deleted by the Mods/Admin with notations in the edit section, and if warranted, people are put on warning. Amazingly enough, we have few problems. There are on average 2-3 Mods per individual forum and the owner is a regular poster. (As expected, most of the battles occur in the Politics and Current Events forum! LOL)
And now to get back on track: I too am grateful for those who take valuable time to post very detailed and informative responses in threads here. I learned a great deal from one thread in particular and if/when I ever purchase another poodle puppy or adopt another retired breeding dog, I'm confident I'll make a sound decision.
I humbly ask the Mods to reconsider posting this thread, deleting or editing out offensive or off-track posts at their discretion, so others can benefit from the valuable information that was shared.
Thank you.

Reason: changed "a" to "another" (retired breeding dog). :)

i've been moderated and have had posts deleted on another forum. but full threads unless they were absolutely started just to **** with someone else were not moderated. and it takes A LOT to get moderated.
in fact, there is no censorship of curse words with the exception of the 4 letter "c word". then it's changed to say cupcake! heh.
i do think it's a shame that a lot of good information goes to the wayside when entire threads are pulled. it's also a shame that this forum is not private.

Respectfully, Faerie, I disagree with private forums. As do most mods. Fewer people will join a forum that they can't take a look at first. I've always insisted on openness in any of my forums. They're not private clubs. Poodle information, and ALL other information, should be available to all on the net.
But I should tell u that I have looked all over for a button to click to unjoin this forum. It's not for me. As soon as I hear back from the mods as to how I can do this I will be gone.
And right now I've got two dogs that are constantly at each other's throats so I've got enuf of poodles at home. I'm gettin' to the point where I wanna string both of them up.
Best I get out of here and deal with that...

Countryboy--don't quit.
I've been frustrated at times and have felt the same way, but I will always have poodles and I feel there are people here who can help me. I've met some incredible people here in the short time I've been a member and I'm grateful! These members will help me be a better owner, groomer and hopefully I can return the favor. Pay it forward, if you will. I know so much more now than I did a month ago. AND, I managed to groom Merlin's face by following advice given here!!!
Everyone here has something to add and something to offer. Some of us are experts in certain fields, others help us by allowing us to learn from their mistakes. So please reconsider! You also have a lot to give.
It's my hope that the forum will continue to grow and evolve as new members join, etc. Isn't that usually how things work? Yes, I'm sounding like an idealist. But we can't give up--not on our poodles!!!

Countryboy: What's going on with your poodles? Maybe we can help!
(Apologies to original OP for going off topic here, but this seems important to me!)

The only way to quit is to log out and never log back in again. Although now you may be banned for announcing your intention, so that will solve the problem.

Taken from "The Rules". Fair is fair, and that is why Tux was banned.

I guess I need to re-read the rules. Many things are so very different here.
We're allowed to post "adieu" threads on my other forum (and other forums that I know of). Granted, most people's "good byes" are more along the lines of: "I'm spending too much time playing around here, and I need to get back to writing, my husband/wife/children, work, eating, sleeping, etc." We frequently have people who self-ban themselves or ask the Owner / Admin to "ban" them for a certain length of tim so they can't access the forum! LOL
In short, most departures aren't negative, but merely people taking a break. Which results in threads posted in the Off-Topic sections asking where so-and-so went and if they're okay, etc.
