Maybe an adoption sub-forum?
I think it would be fantastic if we could have an adoption sub-forum. And maybe even something for breeders to list on?
My boss has two puppy mill rescues in need of a special home and I'm looking for a home for them and noticed there isn't really a place to post about them.
It could be run like the buy and sell sub-forum where the board owners and mods don't take responsibility for the outcomes, leaving it between the adopter and the adoptee.

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestions. We're ok with creating a sub forum for rescues to list adoptions. However, we will not be creating any kind of area for breeders to list on.
Is there anything specific you or anyone else would like to include for this newly Rescues sub forum? Any kind of guidelines you would want to see in place (i.e. should there be a vetting process, who can post, who can see the list, etc)?

I know we've discussed this option previously and I'm OK with a section for rescues and re-homes as long as there is no profit being made from the posts.
I would prefer that the posts be limited to links to not-for-profit rescue organizations (and it would be up to the potential adopter to check that out) or to individual members who are looking for a good home for a foster or a dog they can no longer keep - for no monetary compensation.
I'm sure there will be those who feel they should/could reap some sort of payment for a foster or rescue, but I do foster and I don't charge when I place one of my fur-kids (unless I'm fostering for the local rescue organization - then THEY charge an adoption fee, but I get nothing) IF someone feels the need to charge an adoption fee for a dog they're re-homing, I feel that transaction needs to be between the individual parties and NOT disclosed here. It should not be conducted as a "sale", but as an "adoption".
As far as who gets to post or view... Maybe like the classifieds forum where someone has to have a certain number of posts before they start a thread in the rescue section? And I would think I would be OK for anyone to view it...
Those are my thoughts (scattered as they may be!!)

I agree it should take a number of posts before members are able to view the section.
I think small adoption fees should be accepted. Like, my boss runs a rescue but it's funded out of her pocket and by occasional donations and adoption fees, which are usually under $100, I think.
Non-profits usually ask more, at least in my area. $325 is around what they ask.
So, what I'm trying to say is, $325 is understandable for a non-profit organization but not for an individual or private rescue.
Maybe posters should have to list their adoption fee so we can keep people from selling. If you're familiar with the Pets section of Craigslist, a lot of people don't disclose their "adoption fee" and when you email them to find out what it is and they're asking for a grand.

I like all those ideas. Maybe preventing the publication of the adoption fee will help avoid those 'rescues' that are actually selling dogs.

I really like how they have the adoption forums set up at Germanshepherds.com They have a section for urgent dogs and non urgent (dogs in danger of being euthanized vs. dogs in foster or temporary care). Granted a lot more shepherds go through shelters than poodles..but I think it's still a good idea for having two forums. That way anyone involved with foster/rescues can get notified of poodles in danger and try to find help for them in time. It's a great forum. Many shepherds have been saved or rescued into the foster care system because of those forums.

just a different viewpoint on the fee, I'm a weirdo and like to know everything upfront when I'm looking into something. So I personally would like to see people required to included in there post if there is a fee or not. I wouldn't want to see "hey adopt scooter for 300 bucks" or anything but I would like to know if scooter is free to good home OR if there is a small adoption fee. I think the actual fee should be kept private though. Not that I will be adopting any dogs in the near future or anything. We've already got a foster in the house.
I really really like Aiden's idea of an urgent listing but I don't like the idea of creating a sub forum for it. The more subforums there are the more information gets missed by people. I miss quite a few things because I don't have time to jump from section to section and read. I feel like if half the posts that are listen in some of the sub forums were posted in general poodle talk there would be a lot more informative discussion going on that people could benefit from. Anyway, no changing that now, but I do agree that it would be nice if there was a way to label a listing as urgent or label listings for dog's who are in shelters VS foster care already.

Just curious though, if the fees are kept private, how do you keep this in check? What I mean is, how do you know who's abusing the system by asking selling prices instead of adoption prices? They could state in their auction that they're asking an adoption fee and when you email them, they can ask for $1000.

If someone is going to ask for $1000 just to rehome their pet...then they don't really want to find a home for that dog. There are very few (if any) people that will pay that much for a "rehome".
I know on the shepherd forums the rescue groups usually make their fee public knowledge. A few people post dogs with the fee included but many don't. I don't think I've seen anybody abuse it yet. Maybe it's something we should worry about when/if it happens.

I think this is a good idea. Both of my minipoos were adopted from a rescue. I'd put a monetary cap on the allowed rehoming fee. Since it's supposedly a not-for-profit section, a cap could be put on the allowed rehoming fee - say, no more than $250, or whatever the consensus says is reasonable. This way, a person could reclaim money spent on vetting, but not make a profit.
