thanks for your response - Paris is a lovely dog who is normally wonderful with kids and adults and even starting to like other dogs. I think you are right that it is a fear reaction and I have tried to train the kids not to provoke her or tease her with shrieks. I will just have to be more careful about letting her get underfoot in crowded spaces and removing her when the kids get rambuctious.
I see that you live in the north of England - one of my favorite places! Are you near the Lake District? Paris is a chocolate mini but her color started to grey out by age 2. Will have to post a pic!
