But the thought of "getting rid" of the mother, in order to keep breeding siblings together, goes beyond stupidity into realms of unkindness, ignorance and selfishness I would rather not explre - I don't think the words I am already thinking are allowed on this board!

I agree (and I LOVE your Schiller quote! Sooo appropriate...) This gal was brought up as part of a large farm family here in ND. Farm life (and farmers' thoughts on the animal husbandry of farm cats) is far and away different from those of us who have educated ourselves on good breeding practices of companion animals.
Colonies of farm cats interbreed quite frequently on farms and it's "no biggie" to these farm families, it's just the way it is! The term "ignorant" is spot on. Besides the sheer stupidity of breeding siblings, she was adding these potentially genetically substandard kittens to a planet already overburdened with homeless pets because she wanted her kids to experience the miracle of life (I actually told her to take her kids to the local shelters on euthanasia day to experience the miracle of death that her actions encouraged!!

)
I'm a rescuer and a fosterer as well and I will not stop doing what I do, but I also get very discouraged with the mindset of some people who think that just because something has a uterus it should be bred!
